About Sunny
Dedicated to helping you achieve optimal health through better breathing and oral function.

Hello, I'm Sunny Helms
Welcome! My name is Sunny Helms. I am born, raised and still reside in Newnan, GA. I am so proud to be a Newnanite and am excited to bring myofunctional therapy south of Atlanta.
I have been a dental hygienist for over 26 years and am interested in how the airway, tongue and craniofacial development may have a major impact on our overall physical health and well-being. I am very excited to help my patients and other dental professionals make that connection as well.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about myofunctional therapy and Myo With Sunny.
Myofunctional therapy retrains the muscles of the face, mouth, and tongue so they work together the way they’re supposed to. It’s commonly used to address mouth breathing, tongue thrust, TMJ discomfort, speech difficulties, and swallowing issues.
Common signs include chronic mouth breathing, snoring, a tongue that rests low or pushes against the teeth, jaw or TMJ pain, trouble chewing or swallowing, and speech patterns that haven’t responded to other treatment. If several of these sound familiar, it’s worth a closer look.
Therapy is built around daily exercises — short, repeatable movements for the tongue, lips, and jaw that retrain muscle memory over time. It’s less about one big fix and more about consistently practicing new patterns until they become the body’s new default habit.
Every case is different, but most people start noticing small changes — easier nasal breathing, less jaw tension — within the first several weeks of consistent daily practice. Full retraining of a habit typically takes some months of steady exercises.
For many people, mouth breathing and poor tongue posture during sleep are tied to snoring and disrupted rest. By retraining the tongue and airway muscles to support better nasal breathing, therapy can meaningfully improve sleep quality over time.
No — the exercises are gentle and low-impact. Some people notice mild muscle fatigue after exercises, the same way a new stretch or workout might feel, but should never be painful.
Both. Muscle patterns can be retrained at any age, so adults dealing with mouth breathing, TMJ issues, or sleep-related symptoms can benefit just as much as children — the exercises are simply adjusted to fit the person.
